The hex (Allen) wrench size is 14mm for the following drain and filler plugs:

  • differential (rear axle)
  • gas tank
  • oil pan
  • transmission*

*Use Mercon/Dexron III Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) in the Mercedes-Benz Ponton manual transmission. The original specification is for ATF (type A). Type A is no longer a relevant classification. Use Mercon/Dexron III, non-synthetic.

What is the correct torque for the fluid fill and drain plugs?

The torque specification for the filler and drain plugs is 14Nm (10 Ft-lbs).  See the Tool Kit page for more information on the 14mm wrench.

  • 500,000 km (312,500 mi.)
  • 1,000,000 km (625,000 mi.)

I asked MBUSA about the significance of the large (75 mm diameter) red enamel 200,000 km badge shown in the photo. I thought that it may have been a "75th anniversary edition" issued in 1961. Their reply was, "Over the years, Mercedes-Benz has offered high mileage badges of several different sizes and colors, such as blue, black and red with no special significance other than the number of miles being awarded."

In addition to the badge, the award will include a lapel pin, and a diploma with the owner's name and date.
