History

While I was attending the University of Vermont (1974-1978) my brother Paul became friends with a physics graduate student that he met though the local Amateur Radio Club. Joel Ross became very good friends with our family and spent a lot of time at our home. Joel was originally from Brooklyn, New York but was living in Vermont. Periodically I needed help with physics so I asked him for some assistance. During my tutoring sessions he would tell me about this car he had in his parent's garage in New York. Over the years, I never saw the car because as it turned out, it had not moved from the garage since 1976. The original owner picked the car up in Germany and drove it in Italy for three months before he shipped it to New York. Joel bought it in 1963 for $750.00 making him the second owner. He passed away in 2006 and his sister gave the car to me because I asked her, "What happened to the old Mercedes?" I brought the car to Connecticut in February 2007, made it mechanically safe, keeping "originality" first and foremost. The car was then detailed by a classic Porsche shop and it was back on the road Memorial Day of 2007. There is still more work to be done, which I will accomplish during the summer of 2008. I get plenty of looks and questions wherever I go. It has been fun getting this classic Mercedes-Benz Ponton back where it belongs on the highways and byways here in New England.
