Mercedes-Benz Ponton
South African Bakkie

Dear Editor,

I recently located, which once upon a time, was a Mercedes-Benz Ponton Bakkie 180D, South African version. It was described as "a very good body, requiring four wheels and an engine", however the subsequent pictures tell a different story.

The critical items, being the load-body and rear section of the cab, appear to be savable. With a sound donor car, this could be a challenging restoration project.

At present, I have not decided on which Mercedes-Benz drive train to use; I would prefer the Type 190 petrol conversion to make it more usable, but certain fellow members are encouraging me to stay with the diesel engine option.

Best Regards,
